More health promoting activities are needed for older people if Europe is to cope with future demographic challenges.
This was the main message of a conference on health ageing in Europe, organised by the Swedish National Institute of Public Health in cooperation with the Swedish Presidency of the EU.
A report of the conference, “Healthy ageing in Europe‐ lessons learnt and ways forward”, was produced by EuroHealthNet and presents a summary of the conference and next steps forward for the healthy ageing agenda in the EU.
Key messages on policy, practice and research are outlined in the document, serving as useful guidlines for the European Commission in preparation for its upcoming communication on ageing and health.
Also mentioned are several examples of good practice from across the EU, which can serve as a good base for more in-depth discussions with expert stakeholders and which can in turn lead to strong policy recommendations.
