WHO conference on health in times of global economic crisis
Posted Tue, Mar 31st 2009, 17:52 | Comments (0)The WHO Regional Office for Europe together with the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services and the Norwegian Directorate of Health, is holding a conference on discuss how the economic crisis will affect health and social protection in Europe.
The conference is called ‘Health in times of global economic crisis: implications for the WHO European Region’ and will bring together health ministers, high-level policy-makers and experts from the 53 countries in the WHO European Region to discuss how the health sector can help counter the economic downturn and reduce its negative health and social effects.
Speakers will include Dr Marc Danzon, WHO Regional Director for Europe; Mr Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, Minister of Health and Care Services, Norway; Mr Jonas Gahr Støre, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway; and Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Director, International Institute for Society and Health and MRC Research Professor, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London, UK.
The meeting will be webcast from 13:00 to 18:00, Central European Summer Time, on Wednesday 1st April and from 09:00 to 16:00 on Thursday 2nd April. It will be broadcast in English and Russian.
