Climate change is an issue that has been recognised as a highest priority topic at EU level for some time. The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this coming December is currently an important focus of work in the European Parliament in this area. It is in this light that this lunch debate is an important contribution to the role of the European Parliament in this conference.Climate change is an issue that has been recognised as a highest priority topic at EU level for some time. A great deal of research has been undertaken into the current and future effects of climate change on our planet. However, less is known about the likely impacts of climate change on human health, even though it has been recognised as a serious threat by many commentators, such as the World Health Organisation.
We are keen to take up the mantle of tackling the issue of climate change impacts on human health. This is a serious threat to public health in the EU, and we intend to begin the important discussions
that are necessary at this lunch debate.
