Part of the EUROCITIES 2010 European Year to combat poverty and social exclusion activities.Equity in health and in health care has been a policy priority for Ghent over the past 10 years. The city actively contributed to the development of innovative policy actions by implementing new policy approaches (e.g. promoting universal, population-wide approaches to tackle inequity in health) and developing innovative pilot projects that were later implemented in the whole of Flanders. The city of Ghent cooperates closely with the Health Inequity Research Group of the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care of Ghent University.
